Kieru Update Blog September

The past few weeks have really flown by and as Kieru takes shape its crazy to think about this time last year. We have collective flashbacks to the sudden exit of a team member and that feeling of devastation when we realized that we would have to abandon all work done in Unreal, and show off our student build running in Unity.

That thought alone is enough to push us to get a build that not only looks better, but plays better than what we have shown in the past.

As its been a while, it would be an understatement to say a lot has happened. So this is gonna be a shotgun of information. Hold on to your butts people, because PAX Aus is only 9 weeks away.

Where's Kieru at?

The progress of Kieru has been a hard thing to show off, as art wise its kind of...barren. The focus has been solely on the character; the movement, the camera effects, and the animations.

Now that those things are all working together, you can have a gander at the results:

You can see its still a little rough but its all in there, working to some extent!

In a week or two combat should be all wrapped up and popping off and after that, a full game loop isn't to far behind.

What else is happening?

So. Much. Audio Design.

We have been working closely with this dude we met at last years PAX. He gave a great speech and Jack felt the need to jump him afterwards to let him know just how great the speech was.

That man was Fabian and he runs a little business called THE OTHER WORLD AGENCY.

The other world agency partner video games developers with some of the industry's brightest creative minds in audio; match-making composers and sound designers with devs to make awesome audio for awesome games.

Fabian paired us up with the super talented composer Kevin Penkin  and its honestly been a hoot. We are far from professionals so its great to work with people who understand that and get that we're kinda making it up as we go.

The music we've been getting from Kevin has been sick and god damn are we excited to blow all your lids with the soundtrack.

It doesn't stop there though.

Sound effects will play a large role in Kieru  and that's taken a bit of time to really wrap our heads around. To design mechanics or features based around sound effects is something totally different to anything we've ever done before so that's been exciting.

Sound FX scene set up to match sounds to surface types.

In other news Pine Fire Studios has relocated. At the moment its all very hush hush but keep an eye out on our Facebook for some hot deets to be revealed soon. Until then, enjoy this sneak peak ;)

How do I keep up?

What an excellent question! Leading up to PAX we're going to do our best to keep you all in the loop and up to date with all the latest in Pine Fire news. More importantly we're going to be blasting you with Kieru updates, images, vids and gifs.

If you're reading this you've probably already liked our facebook page but for daily (almost) content be sure to add us on snap chat!

We're Stressed out, strung out, and very very tired but there is light at the end of this tunnel so be sure to check in and watch as Kieru grows in to the most bad ass ninja game on the indie scene.

Thanks for reading. See you fools at PAX!
