The Pine Fire Catch Up Blog
It's hard to know where to even begin. When we last spoke it was August last year and my god has a lot happened since then. Highs, lows, tears, beers, and heaps of two minute noodles. We’re not here to tell you about noodles, but I’d be lying if I said they haven't played a pretty big role in our blossoming game dev careers.
This is a catch up post, filling you in on the roller-coaster we've been riding since September last year and letting you know that ‘hey, we’re still alive!’
The first Bit
Without a paddle.
Pine Fire Studios was now a four man team with one clear goal; PAXAUS 2015.
An event like this was a first for us and we wanted to make an impression. We needed shirts, badges, business cards, a new logo and most importantly, a new build.
We had just switched from Unity to Unreal Engine 4 and while we all sat on the learning curve together, we were loving it.
Stress comes to mind thinking about those months, but at the time it all seemed doable. Things were on track and somehow making it all up as we went along was working out alright.
Then something completely unexpected happened.
Six weeks out from pax, our fourth team member walks into the office and hands us a note. It's a breakup letter. He says good bye and walks out, and as quick as that Pine Fire Studios is now a three man team.
While we wish him all the best the timing could not have been any worse.
If we were going to show off at PAX there was no way it was going to be in Unreal, so we bit the bullet and jumped back to Unity.
That's right, we were almost right back to where we left off from at the start of the year with only six weeks to bust something out.
We call this time ‘The Great Pine Fire Panic’
